Marquee Nightclub at The Star Sydney

Background:

Marquee Sydney is a nightclub like nothing Australia has ever seen before. Located on the top level of The Star Sydney's harbourside entrance, the club commands expansive views of Sydney Harbour and the city skyline and boasts 1200 capacity, state-of-the-art sound and lighting, regular performances by world-renowned artists and a discerning VIP clientele.

Operated by the internationally acclaimed Tao Group (New York, Las Vegas & Los Angeles) the premier restaurant and nightlife group owns and operates the following venues:

Hospitality positions required to hire: VIP Host, Door Host, Cashier, Cocktail Server, Bus Person, Bar Attendant, Bottle Servers, Bar Porter, Bathroom Attendant, Promotional Staff. 


What we did:

TAO Group is renowned for delivering world class customer service and unparalleled VIP experiences, a style of service unbeknown to Australia prior to the club’s arrival.

Our team was required to develop a deep understanding of the brand and overall concept and relaying this to prospective employees hired in time for pre-opening. 

We initiated a unique advertising and marketing strategy, alongside traditional recruitment methods and worked in collaboration with web developers and social media experts to implement an advanced online campaign specifically for hospitality jobs at Marquee Sydney.

Ongoing, our business remains accountable for the recruitment and pre-selection process, payroll outsourcing, human resources and scheduling function for 300+ staff at The Star Sydney, approximately 100 of those contracted into front-line hospitality roles at Marquee Sydney. We also work in close collaboration with Marquee Management to streamline onboarding systems, develop talent, manage individual employee performance and introduce innovative employee retention initiatives. Many staff who began as casual workers presented by our business have now received promotions to full-time permanent positions across the hospitality venues at The Star Sydney.


The Result:

Marquee has been lighting up the Sydney nightlife scene since its inception, providing the best local and international talent from around the world to perform exclusively at the venue. Cardwell, Armin Van Buuren, Avicii, Havana Brown, The Stafford Brothers and Will Sparks are just some of the top tier artists that have graced the decks at Marquee and kept Sydney at the forefront of international dance music.

Transplanting a Vegas style nightclub in the heart of Sydney was always going to present significant challenges. A concept as bold and brave had simply never been attempted before, and many thought it wouldn’t last. 

In its first two years operation Marquee Sydney has achieved the following accolades;

  • Nightclub of the Year - Australian Bartender Magazine Awards 2012 & 2013
  • Nightclub of the Year - Best in Sydney Awards, Alternative Media Group 2012

The Grand Opening weekend (March 2012) was attended by many local and international celebrities including Paris Hilton, Red Foo (LMFAO), Will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas) and Dutch DJ, Afrojack.

Not only has the venue received praise for the quality of its design, fit-out and world-class entertainment offering, excellent customer service and a vibrant staff culture have also been accredited to Marquee's overwhelming success.
